Somatic Practice

Touch therapy covers various interwoven focus areas, including trauma recovery, somatic touch, self-regulation skills and resilience. Somatic touch is an attachment focused neurophysiological method of hands on and intentional healing. This somatic approach can help build greater capacity towards resilience into the autonomic nervous system and build neural plasticity to bring your nervous system into balance. Resilience is the ability to respond to challenge without effort. Somatic touch work is remarkably helpful to regulate the nervous system and bring safety back to the body. I am offering both online intentional touch and in person touch sessions at this time.

Touch therapy is especially effective with treating trauma. This work is healing for developmental trauma, relational and attachment trauma. It is also helpful for PTSD and medical trauma. Many people with a history of anxiety and depression are often unaware that they may have unresolved trauma from early in life that affects how they feel in the present. This early trauma is often implicit or below the level of one’s awareness.

My somatic training began thirty years ago with Sylvia Conant RN, Maggie Phillips Ph.D, Noelle Poncelet Ph.D., Bessel van der Kolk MD. I have completed the following trainings in the past five years ( 2017-2022): 1- Touch Skills Training for Trauma Therapists with Kathy Kain.; 2- The Somatics of Emotions with Kathy Kain SEP and Tony Richardson MD; 3- Somatic Resilience and Regulation/ 3 modules with Kathy Kain SEP and Stephen Terrell Psy.D SEP; 4- Transforming The Experienced Based Brain/ three modules with Stephen Terrell Psy.D SEP.

All touch therapy work is done with the client fully clothed at all times.
